High glucose levels

Can anyone help??? My mum has just been diagnosed with diabetes 3 weeks ago. The week leading up to diagnosis, she was VERY ill. Sleeping constantly, swelling of her legs etc. The problem we had was she also has cancer, and her symptoms could of been from treatment! The day she started her medication(oral) my mum collapsed and had suffered a mild heart attack. On being released we have carefully monitored her levels, and 2 weeks later we have finally been visited by a diabetes nurse! My question is that mums glucose levels have been steadily rising over last couple of days, even though they have increased her tablets. Today they have decided she will have insulin injections which will be delivered thursday. My mums levels are at 29 now and i'm so worried as this is higher than before she was in hospital. The doctors don't seem concerned but she cannot get out of bed without her feet turning purple and the swelling starts up really quick. Any advice or infomation would be really appreciated.

I don't think forum advice will be helpful in her serious condition. You are justified in calling an ambulance. They should be able to stabilise her condition & give you expert advice for home care.

Dear est.
I just wanted to reiterate what the others have said and if you are EVER concerned about your mum and feel fobbed off don't hesitate to get her to hospital ASAP. Sometimes we trust health care professionals more than we trust our instincts. It is very common for one department to have no idea what the other department has advised or the treatment given.

Come back here as many times as you want to for lots of support and love. Watching your Mum go through this illness must be very difficult and you can sound off here as much as you want to.

Many, many best wishes to you and your family.
