High Glycemic Carbs After Weight Training

I am Type 1 diabetic and probably categorised as being very fit. Until now I have resisted weights but now have started Olympic Bar weight training. I upped my Protein intake considerably for the muscle recovery but resisted carbs due to the problem of having to have insulin there afterwards. The viscious circle worries me as I've been there like most..I am not wanting he man looks but lean muscle to burn more fat currently 15%..
What I see is immediately after training I will be possibly in a Catabolic state given that any Glycogen stores would be used and energy for repair would be coming from the very muscles I am working. Does anyone thing Dextrose along with the protein be helpful in fast acting the anabolic state. Of course with that spike I would probably need a wee bit of insulin to counteract it.
Do anyone of you Medics or Gym Junkies have a view.
Thanks,
Gus

Hi

Yeah you should defiantly be having some sort of fast acting carbohydrate along with a slow release one after you've been doing resistance training, I'm currently in a similar position where I'm building muscle/burning body fat etc. If your going for that lean look you defiantly need to be training while in a calorie deficit to maximize burning body fat but retaining muscle at the same time. (Take BCAA's to) I don't want to go to far into given advice because everyone's body reacts differently to various meals plans and training regimes, But i would say read a book called Nate Miyaki (The truth about carbs) it gives you some real valuable knowledge on how carbs react when being applied after or before resistance training and how it benefits and maximizes the amount of fat you will burn during training sessions. I usually do a 6 day gym split routing and have my last main meal right after my workout where i consume the rest of my calories/carbs/fats/protein etc. I stick to around 180g carbs and around 2200-2500 cals which is low but I'm in a deficit at the moment to burn as much body as possible, And i usually do a carb reload on Sunday where i consume 500g carbs to replete Glycogen stores in the muscle. Fat burners can help too (Hydroxy cut) Its works well for me without effecting by blood sugar levels at all, Just gives you that extra boost! Keep a daily journal and wright down all of you workouts, what you eat, how much you lift, you current body weight etc all of which will be valuable information in months to come when you know exactly what you need to eat to burn fat and build good quality lean muscle.

Hope that helps a little.

Peace
