I do not have diabetes
HI, been getting in to low carb diets and research around it. so out of interest I got a blood glucose meter. I get normal readings...

But out of interest I did a test on my father who is 60. his readings from just after he gets up(but before eating anything) is 6.4 mmol. I did the same test the next day in the morning and it was 6.2 mmols.

reading the info buff it is telling me that is in the pre-diabetes range. So before panicking everyone, How bad is this really? he is very fit and active (stronger then most normal men) what other tests I can do from home before packing him off the doctor. My father has a brother who has type-2 and my father has a very sweet tooth.

My father is getting to that age were I want to keep on top of any issues but don't want to start any fuss over nothing.

regards

It's good that you are keeping an eye on him. Those readings are normal i.e between 5 - 7mmol. A better time to test is 2 hours after a typical meal when the reading should be below around 8mmol
