Hi,
Me again, I’ve noticed that a couple of times in the last few days, I’ve felt a bit out of sorts - tired, shaky and needing the loo having having not eaten recently - if I test my blood sugars they are sitting between 10 and 12, and almost I’m having a hypo - is this something that could happen ?
My “normal” bloods sugars are anything from 13- 17.5 and my HBa1c was 85,
I have managed to get 3 readings under 10 in the last week, and didn’t feel too great prior to getting them either
I’m having a repeat HBa1c test tomorrow and not only any medication and not a confirmed diagnosis yet

There’s a common known thing called a “false hypo” which means you will feel like your having a hypo & experience all the symptoms of a hypo.

This can happen when you’ve been running high blood sugars for a while, as you start to bring your blood sugars down your body thinks your in need of glucose to bring you back up to the high numbers it’s used to.

I know it feels unpleasant but your not having a hypo, ( a hypo is anything under 3.9) and it’s best to ride it out & not treat it and get your body used to the lower numbers.

If your used to numbers in the high teens then being under 10 will probably make you feel like this

I add a caveat here as it says in your profile treatment as other, so I’m not sure what meds you are on. Your last sentence I take to mean you’re not on any meds yet for your diabetes? If your on insulin or meds that can cause a hypo like Gliclizide, if you do go into the very low 4 or high 3 then it’s best to treat it with some fast acting carbs like a couple of jelly babies, then test again 15 minutes later, if your then out of hypo territory have a slow acting carb snack of about 10g.

Hi LouT, if your body has been used to running around 13 - 17.5 and now you’re down to 10 - 12 your body is giving you hypo like symptoms as it gets used to running lower. Sometimes called false hypos. You just need to ride it out I’m afraid.

Thanks for the reply it all makes sense, I’ve just been riding it out as the levels are high and probably have been for a while as my HBa1c is 85
No I’m not on any medication at all for diabetes as it’s not been confirmed yet - waiting for my second blood test tomorrow

Thanks that what I thought but being very new to all of this I thought I’d ask, most of the time I’m still running between 12-17.5
