High Levels

I'm type 2 and having a testing kit to use as and when I feel I need to. Since Monday my reading have been high....usually between 22 and 15. The lowest I've managed to get them down to is 9.4! I spoke to my nurse yesterday who says she isn't overly concerned at the moment and just to really restrict what I eat and drink loads. All I've had to eat this morning is porridge and a cup of coffee....and my sugars are now 21.2!! I'm already through my first bottle of water and I'm boiling hot to the point where I'm sweating!
 
Those levels are too high and your nurse should be more pro-active, unless you are only just diagnosed ?
Do you have any more info ? History ? Meds ? Diet, etc ? Don't want to appear nosy but difficult to advise on such little information.

I was diagnosed in May 2012. I take 2x1g Metformin SR in the mornings, with breakfast. I'm being very careful on what I eat this week but it seems no matter what I eat or drink, I can't get my levels low enough. I've gone from boiling hot to cold now and I'm still sweating!

It could be that you're developing a cold or something or maybe your meds need adjusting. Assuming your diet hasn't really changed, you need to record all your readings for a couple of days and get in touch with your nurse. If they are still high, somethings needs changing. Can you see a doctor or is it always a nurse ? Good luck ! Mo

I only ever see my specialist diabetes nurse. I'm recording all my readings and she's meant to be phoning me tomorrow to see if they're any better. I was close to just taking myself to A and E yesterday cuz I felt so rotten and no one was taking me seriously, I feel rubbish again today but there's not much I can do about it
 
See what they say tomorrow but if you get fobbed off, speak up. Those readings are way above NICE guidelines and need reducing. It could however mean you're coming down with a cold or something. You had high numbers for long ?

My levels have always been a bit higher than ideal but nothing this high. I've just been a bit sick and I feel rough so it could be something I'm coming down with

I always have porrige for breakfast but have to be very careful how much I have 30g dry oats max or my glucose shoots up.
Have you tried going for a brisk walk for 20 mins then test when you get back?

That would explain the higher than normal readings then. Keep monitoring and discuss with your nurse.

Yes, as Mo says, if you are sick this can cause much higher blood sugars. If your sugars don't come down below the teens when back to health then you must insist that the DN takes the high blood sugar seriously. Are you overweight and how old are you? If not overweight and still quite young then the possibility of Late onset T1 can't be excluded. Let us know about your age and weight. Either way you may need more than just the Metformin. I went thru just Metformin to adding Gliclazdie and Sitagliptin to help hold my sugars at least for a few years.
 
I'm 26 and need to lose about a stone to be an ideal weight. I've managed to get them down to about 11 before lunch, that's if I don't eat anything at all between breakfast and lunch (about 4.5 hours) and gain between lunch and dinner. Going for a walk is a little hard for me because of work but I do try to walk when my sugars are high. I've been drinking loads of water this week too, to lower them. My nurse was meant to phone me today but as usual I haven't heard anything.
