I don't understand why a high carb diet is recommended by the diabetic clinic and yet I read that a low carb diet is more appropriate for the fairly obvious reason that it produces less sugar for the body to deal with which is why the USA and some European countries recommend the Low carb approach.
So which is better High or Low?

Well, I can only say that the clinic is really stupid to recommend a high carb diet. If they really understood the mechanisms of food digestion and diabetes and listened to feedback from diabetics they would know the importance of controlling carbs. I've been looking at posts on this and other forums for several years now and looked at many other resources including the recent NICE ones. Whilst a few posters don't agree with low-carbing I don't think I've seen any that recommend high-carbing. I have a friend with diabetes who has followed his GP's advice to have carbs with every meal and is happy with that. When he tried 40mg of Gliclazide he went hypo which indicated to me that he has very 'mild' diabetes where the diet isn't super-critical. I had to starve myself of carbs before I went onto insulin which proved to me the impact of carbs on blood sugar. So, if you can avoid that clinic I would!
