Hi all,

I've woken up this morning to blood sugars of 16.8. The past few weeks previously I was waking up with them between 5-8 which is ideal for me and even this weekend they were 5.8 despite me sleeping in late. I'm doing nothing different and yet today they are sky high. My Libre graph shows no hypos during night just a sudden raise around 5am ( I get up at 6am). Put in in a miserable mood and it's only Monday!

Sounds like Dawn Phenomenon....

The reason why it has happened so severely out of the blue is anyone's guess....

Did you have a higher carb intake over the weekend....?

Did you have any carbs last night?

Hey @novorapidboi26. I had a small amount of carbs for my evening meal last night. When I tested two hours afterwards bloods were 7.7 then a couple of hours after that before bed they were 10.5 prior to injecting Lantus, then according to the libre graph they lowered within range during the early hours then spiked around 5am. I go through phases where I will have perfect morning readings for months then a couple of weeks like this then it will go back to normal again. It's so frustrating feel like I'm constantly waiting for them to c0ck up!

It does seem strange........

It can only be the liver going by your overnight readings....

How was carb intake over the weekend generally....

it could be that an increased carb intake resulted in a more sever DP event than normal....thats all I can think of anyway....besides just general diabetic unpredictability...;)

are you basal ratios set up to deal with DP

It was ok (I'm a carb lover!) but it wasn't anything over the top. Thanks for the heads up on DP I'd never even heard of that before. I'm seeing my doctor today as I need to chase up a letter from the hospital and I'm seeing a dietician in a few weeks so I'll see if they can offer any insight. I've struggled with Lantus for years I'm wondering whether it's worth trying a different basal.
