I keep having readings of 15-16 in the morning despite having a reasonable pre bed reading. I follow DAFNE and am getting confused as to what I should do. I have increased my Basal dose slightly.
Help please!
Hi
@Barbie3
Welcome to my world.
I have been affected by high morning readings for a long time up until this summer when everything has suddenly gone the other way and I am often below 4mmol upon waking.
But back to you!
It may be helpful to know when you inject insulin and what you typically eat for an evening meal?
How do you measure your blood glucose, do you have CGM or are you using finger pricks only?
My CGM showed that I was usually starting to go high between 3am-4am.
What is your long acting insulin regime, once a day or twice?
By experimentation I found that the only thing that really worked for "me" was having a very low (or even zero) carb evening meal so that the body cannot make lots of glucose while I sleep. But this is not always practical or desirable of course.
As I said in my opening comment, I am now waking up most mornings with low glucose even though I have greatly reduced my evening basal insulin.
Probably not much help, but sometimes that just seems to be the way diabetes is.
