High reading after eating

Hi. Have recently been diagnosed with Type 2.
Am taking 1x50mg Metformin a day.
When initially diagnosed last week I was 16.6 then 16.1, both on a fasting test.
This morning my fasting was 14.2, but now after a tuna sandwich, crisps and Robinsons 'no added sugar' orange its 21.6!!
Feel tired and very heavy eyes, if that makes sense!
Any tips please?
Cheers

What bread did you use? And those crisps are a no-no. The bread I can manage is Burgen bread from Tesco, its on at £1 at the mo. I can manage a sandwich miday, that's 2 slices a day. Some can only manage 1 slice. Iv'e not eaten crisps in years but I'm sure they are high carb and fried in something unmentionable.

Brown whole meal. Shame about the crisps... Not up to speed on the Carb etc yet. A steep learning curve for me I think.
Thanks so much for your response.

Brown wholemeal bread is as bad as white bread to most diabetics. Try the Burgen soya and linseed bread which is lower in carbs around half of most bread and low GI so digested slowly. Test before and 2 hours after, you should be down towards your pre meal test. The tiredness and heavy eyes are because your levels are so high, once you have them down then you'll start to feel better.

Thanks very much Ann. Think I might need to find myself a dietitian !!

Unfortunately many of us either can't see a dietician or are given advice by our NHS that is not good for a diabetic. The healthy eating advice given to us is low fat, lots of starchy carbs. This is not a good diet for a diabetic as carbs turn to glucose and push out BG levels higher and higher  Many of us find that if we lowcarb and eat a higher fat diet that it gives us lower blood glucose levels and we lose weight. Double bonus!!
