High reading-insulin working?

Hi all

Was diagnosed type 1 a couple of weeks ago after hospitalisation and very high readings of mid thirties and high keystones. I've been on Humulin M3 twice a day (12 in morning 14 units at night) but I'm still having readings of 20 in morning?! Anyone else on this? Does it take a while to settle? I've had a sore throat as well whilst this had been going on and have been told that's be harder to manage blood glucose levels but I thought id see a bit of an improvement by now? I've already increased dosage and am seeing doctor again next week but just wanted others views as I'm new to this.

Thanks

Hi @Jennystokes82 :) Sorry you're feeling ill. Certainly, a sore throat or other infection can put blood sugars up.

Not so many people here use mixed insulin like you're using so you may not get that many people responding who're on that insulin.

Do you have the number of a Diabetes Specialist Nurse you could phone? That way you could get some advice earlier than your doctor's appointment, and you may be able to get your sugars down.

Yes I have spoken to them and they have advised me to increase (went I left hospital I was on 6 and 8 units) and have since increased but didn't know how much I can play around. They said to increase by 2 each time and leave a couple of days and see but I'm really not seeing any change. I'll call them again tomorrow just didn't know if I was being impatient and know this forum can be so helpful. Thanks so much for replying though.

It's good advice to leave a couple of days to see how increases go. That way you can see a pattern rather than one off results.

It's possible you were started on cautious doses and they may gradually increase until you get to the right dose for you.

Do you count carbs?
