Hi,

Well, I thought my bg had started to fall at last after taking Metformin 1 x twice per day. On Christmas day, I had a reasonable portion of lunch with a portion of trifle, then a glass of red wine. Went to our daughters for about 4 and had another glass of red, but made it last until 7 when we left, but I did eat more than I should have. Anyway when I got home I done a test and it was only 16.1. which I thought was quite good considering what I had had to eat.

Yesterday, I had porridge for breakfast with unsweetened soya milk (as I do every morning) I had the the usual Sunday lunch (chicken, carrots, cabbage, peas, mashed potato. yorkshire pud and gravy), no sweet. I did have about 6 sugar free werthers originals while I was at a concert to see Mama Mia. When we got home I had a couple of wholemeal buns with tuna and sweetcorn and a slice of Christmas cake. When I took a test later that night it was 29.1!!!!

It was 17.2 on fasting this morning then again 2 hours after lunch, it was 24.8. tonight it was 28.5!!! I had porridge for breakfast, 2 fishfingers with a handful of oven chips and peas for lunch, then my family came for tea. I had a couple of sandwiches, thin slice of ham and egg pie, thin slice of pizza, a handful of crisps and a small slice of cheesecake (bought). I'm having a glass of red wine. I took the test soon after eating and after a few sips of wine. I feel ok but I'm just so confused as to why it had jumped higher than when I wasn't taking Metformin?

Last night I was scared to go to sleep!!! the last couple of mornings Ive felt like I had a huge hangover and my eyesight is all blurred again and has been for the last 3-4 days.
I just don't know whats happening

Hi Mo.

 I'm not surprised your readings are so high. Your overall carb intake was quite frankly probably more than I would eat in a week. For example two wholemeal buns contains roughly 80g carbs which is my daily intake and for some low carbers, probably two days intake.

So, you can see that although it is Christmas you might have overdosed on carbs a tad !!! I think you need to to detox !! The high Bg numbers you are experiencing will cause blurry vision amongst a number of other things.

Maybe you need to see your GP and discuss your medication as it may not be sufficient to cover your dietary intake. You might also consider reducing your carb intake as well.

hya ,
exactly what cugila has said,
as a type 2 you just cannot manage that many carbs,
im type 1 and even i dont eat anything like that,
i think seeing the dr may be an idea to see about medication :D

Thankyou once again.

Yes, guess I need to get sorted with my diet. I just can't get my head round low carbs yet. I need to try it and do a bit more research. Things are just so confusing at the moment.

Anyway, Its a little lower today, so I'll be careful until I get to see the Dr next week.

Happy New Year to you all.
