On 5xmetformin and not been sick for about 2 months until this morning 4.15 am! My morning readings are usually around 8 but this morning 11.3 not eaten anything different to usual low carb diet. HELP!

Perhaps it is something you ate yesterday that is upsetting your stomach. If it continues best to see your doctor, in the meantime try and drink as much as you can without being sick to keep up your hydration levels.
You may also be coming down with something such as a virus etc.

Thanks Sue Ifeel fine no real stomach upset as in eating something that disagrees .Iknow its just the metformin cos it is just the same as when I first started to take it I am not worried about the sickness just about the high bs.

hya,
keep a close eye and if you start feeling ill and/or getting higher bloods then phone your gp for advice :D
take care

Hi.
Being sick is a stomach upset.

You have no proof that it is the Metformin, however the signs of a rare side effect of Metformin are:
deep and rapid breathing, vomiting, abdominal pain. If you think that you have these symptoms please contact NHS Direct 0845 46 47 or get to your nearest A & E Dept.

In any event you should speak to your GP for further advice.

one of the side effects of mets is nausea DN agrees .I dont go to GP for 1 bout of sickness I feel fine just wanted to know what caused high bgs could it be liver dump as stomach would be empty

yep eating fine all day had large portion of cheese onion and cauli with a slice of spelt bread (not had it before rare treat)for my tea bgs at 2 hours 8.9 quite high but a lot of fatty cheese ! Not as scary as this morning though Thanks for everyones concern .The amount I have eaten today certainly not stomach upset .

Iam really new to this but I have been reading alot on this forum (THANKS EVERYONE )does it not take longer for bgs to go down after a fatty meal? Also has spelt bread less glucose than ordinary wheat bread? Hope I havnt wasted my hard earned pension!

Fat slows down the absorption of glucose so, if you have a high bg reading at two hours then that is likely to be a quick acting carbohydrate such as bread. If the fat is slowing down the absorption then you would have to test at 3 hours as well to see if the bg is up further or coming down.

The only sure way to find out which foods affect your blood sugar levels is to test before and two hours after each meal.

BTW do you have the carb content of the spelt bread that you ate ?
