Hi everyone,

For a while now I have not been controlling my sugars and burying my head, eating mostly whatever I want (caused by stopping smoking, stress, depression and severe anxiety).

This week I decided to stop pretending that im ok and remembering that I am diabetic.

My last 2 days have been like this:

I have been taking my sugars in the morning, before meals, 2 hours after meals and before bed and I cant seem to get my sugars below 9 (except once late last night before bed, around 00:30, it was 7.4).

My blood sugar seems to be around 11 in the morning, my morning "meal" is a swig of milk and take my Gliclazide 40mg and vitamin tablets. 2 hours later my blood sugar will normally be around 11 - 13.

Then before lunch, between 9-10, but by this point I am very hungry and cant not eat.

2 hours after lunch, its around 11.

Before evening meal (take 80mg Gliclazide) its around 9 again. 2 hours after around 11-13.

Before bed (around midnight-1am) anywhere from 7.4 - 11. (Last night was 7.4).

Than waking its 11 again.

Seems im in this cycle where my blood sugars are in the 7.4-11 range and wont go down. I mean, its controlled to an extent the last 2 days, but its just staying higher. I want this kind of control but between 3-8 rather than between 7-13.

What can I do to get it down between meals to 5? And why is my blood sugar going up from 7.4 to 11 whilst I sleep?
I dont understand this, unless im sleepwalking to the fridge at 4am, which I can say im not.

As said in your other thread, given you're LADA/T1, your pancreas may not be producing enough insulin anymore to deal with what you're eating and doing, this is expected with LADA/T1

This could well be the dawn phenomenon - ie where your body "helpfully" pumps a load of sugar into you to get you ready for the day and if your pancreas is struggling it may not be able to deal with it anymore, I get a bad case of that (and that is how I managed to get a pump) so mine could rise up to 15 by the morning from 6ish even with the insulin that'd I taken, and no I had not been raiding the fridge overnight, my libre showed me it tended to start going upwards at 3-4am and did not stop til I took my fast-acting insulin in the morning.

Edit: typo's!

It is usual for the morning BS to be the last to go down - see Dawn phenomenon. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/blood-glucose/dawn-phenomenon.html
Meanwhile, what are you eating?
Protein and fat are your friends now so you needn't get so hungry.
Average day eating:

Morning, milk (just a swig)
Afternoon, chicken with some sauce, or a microcurry (38g carbs) and surprisingly low fat (Bistro Menu Chicken Curry from B and M)
Evening, either another curry with basmati rice, or chicken in sauce, or sausage and mash with peas, or steak

Try swapping the rice for cauliflower rice - I prefer mine batch oven cooked then reheated in the microwave. For mash either cauliflower or a mix of a lower carb squash and cauliflower - I find rinsing the cauliflower in boiling water helps to remove the 'cauliflower taste' so it is more neutral.

Breakfast - egg, cheese, ham, mushrooms, etc?

The micro curry seems high for me - when I went low carb testing before and after meals showed I couldn't have more than 30g in a meal. The curries I have ready made on occasion are under 14g a portion.
Peas are relatively high carb, green veg such as broccoli, spinach, green beans or cabbage are better as part of your 5 a day.

Steak and mushrooms would be good, with some other low carb veg?

You shouldn't usually try to cut unprocessed fats such as butter and olive oil while doing low carb/keto.
