I came home from work last night, ate some supper (Lidl HP roll and soft cheese) and then did bg reading two hours later just before going to be which was 5.3. I had a very odd night's sleep - every little noise disturbed me. Then went in to a very deep sleep in the hour between my husband getting up and my alarm going off - when I did finally wake up I felt 'drugged', very groggy.
So, as usualy, I did a bg reading first thing - wow, it was 8.9 which is the highest I've had in months. Since then I've developed a cracking headache and a runny nose so assume I'm starting a cold. I had 2tbs chia seeds / .75 cup Almond Breeze unsweetened and 1 tsp raw cocoa powder pudding for breakfast with a bit of splenda and an hour after eating I was feeling REALLY poorly. My bg had risen to 10.7, after 2 hours it had gone up to 12.3 and after 3 hours it was 12.9, back marginally to 12.8 at 4 hours. (I don't usually test every hour but these levels are worrying me as I have been in the 4s and 5s with an occasional blip of a very low 6 for the last 10 weeks!)

The cold symptoms have also escalated so I've phoned in sick today. I hate letting them down but part of my job involves doing face to face personal hygiene work with LD adults - not ideal when you've got a contagious bug.

I tried phoning to arrange a telephone consultation with the DN but she is off sick and my GP is a bit like a chocolate teapot when it comes to diabetes in general and low carbing in particular. So, has anyone else had this experience. Please tell me its not just me.

Yes, a cold causes my bloods to rocket! I normally just do regular correction doses but I take it you're T2 as you don't mention any insulin? If so I'm afraid I can't help with the best way to treat it, perhaps repeat your post in the T2 area?

Hope you feel better soon

Hi, I regard my t2 as my early warning system for a cold! I always go high for at least 2 days before the cold presents itself, as for treating the high bg levels, I wouldn`t worry unduly as they will be as temporary as your cold. Let`s face it, a cold is bad enough without stressing over temporarily high bg levels. Stop worrying and cosset yourself for a couple of days!
