Higher BS reading since medication change

I was prescribed 80mg Gliclazide by the diabetes nurse and immediately started to see lower blood sugar readings, a few days later saw my GP and mentioned that I'd had one hypo so he changed me to 30mg Gliclazide slow release. However, blood sugar readings have been much higher on this. I'm due to see the diabetes nurse tomorrow to show her the readings over the last two weeks, is it likely that I'll be prescribed another dose of this medication? I've made pads of changes to my diet and using My Fitness Pal to monitor carb intake, but I think my pancreas needs a bigger squeeze than the 30mg is giving it to release enough insulin to drop my blood, sugar levels. Currently waking up with 9 and above and not dropping below 7 throughout the day with a reading of 11.4 two hours post lunch yesterday.

well done for keeping good records of your blood sugars.:)
this is exactly what your Diabetes nurse will want to help decide what to do with your medication.

I believe you have answered your own question.
Go back to your GP and discuss it with him.
I would even go as far as reducing your levels of carbs further to see if that helps.

But do be careful of hypos on glicizide.

Hi. I found the same when i was changed to the MR version (slow release). My BG rose , and then fell back when I returned to standard at the same dose (80mg). I find that for me the 4 tabs dose take me to hypoland fairly regularly since I went low carb, so now I adjust my evening meds depending on what my pre meal reading is. I quite often omit both evng tabs now, I discussed this with my GP and he is happy for me to self medicate like this, and also to carry on LCHF diet. I seem unable to drop my evng tabs completely and find i need one every 3 days to maintain my reasonable levels. My control is not as good as many on this site, but it is significantly better than last year. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your replies. I had a fairly low carb breakfast this morning, 2 slices Burgen Soya and Linseed bread with deli egg mayonnaise and a cup of tea (no sugar) at 8.00am. Took reading at 12pm and BG was 3.6.
