Hi Everyone

Im really new to this Diabetes thing, and still trying to get my head around the whole situation, doctors not a lot of help. What i want to know is, (and this is proberly a silly question) what happens if you really want to have something yummy?? like a chinese takeaway or mac donalds? or even a couple of chocolate biscuits? does having some bad food every now and then ok? or do the doctors expect your numbers to be a consistant 5.5? and what happens if you have the occasional bad food are you more likely to suffer from diabetes related problems?

I think most of us have the very occasional treat - for example over Christmas. Then we get straight back on the diet checking our levels regularly. I must admit though that I wouldn't eat a takeaway! Perhaps one chocolate biscuit (you get as much pleasure from one as you get from two). I only stray moderately, and not very often :)

I think the main thing is to make sure that what you are eating is actually a treat and that it is an occasional one. Christmas is a good time to relax the diet because it only happens once a year. If you are not careful those occasional treats can sneak up and bite you on the bum when they become weekly or daily   Lots of people on here have commented how they have had something they used to eat as a treat and actually not enjoyed it all that much. Also Daisy makes a very good point about 1 chocolate biscuit being as good as 2. It's just an attitude of mind you have to get used to. Keep practising good habits and it does get easier...honest! :D
