Highs and lows

Hi

I have had symptoms of high blood sugar levels for about a month, so started fingerpick testing this week. I’ve been around 10/11 in the mornings. After food I’ve had 13-16, before food 9. I’m going to ask gp for another hba1c as I’m not due again until October when my levels came back fine.
Today though before tea I was feeling nauseous and how I have felt when I’ve had lows in the past (gestational diabetes on insulin) so checked and I was 5.9. Is it normal to feel nauseous in normal range if my sugars have been running high for a while?

Thanks

Vonnie

Hi @xxvonniexx with your blood sugars running high during the day a drop will give you the feeling of going low even though you are not hypo at 5.9. It’s your brain thinking your blood sugars are low because your sugars have been running high. A fair few members here report similar experiences. That said, not all things are diabetes related so there could be non diabetic reasons too.
Asking your Dr to check your Ac1’s is a good idea especially as your blood sugars are on the high side.

I only test once a day as soon as I get up. I’ve felt sick late afternoon recently. It’s a catch 22 situation because I don’t want to eat because I feel sick, on the other hand I’ve often felt sick because I’ve needed something to eat and on these occasions I’ve had a chunk of cheese or slice of ham (something that won’t raise my BG) and it’s worked.
Maybe you’re hungry?
