Good Morning all, I am struggling to get my BG down to target I'm told I'm type 2 steroid induced my Doctor put me on 500gm Metformin, and sent me off telling me that they will contact me in three months time to take more blood. I had no idea what was going on and really felt lost, that's when I come home And signed up to this very helpful group, and discovered that I should receive more support, while researching diabetes a pop up note appeared on screen inviting me to win a Contour next one meter in a monthly draw, so I filled it in and sent it off, two weeks later through the post said meter arrived , Before rushing at it I read instructions from page to page, my first test was 20 Dec first thing in morning as I was getting breakfast the reading was 7.6 two hours later after eating a bowl of weetabix the next test went to 13.2 I thought the breakfast to blame so decided to take advice on diet control, but my readings have stayed high with an average of 15.2 spiking up to 20.8 . For the last couple of days have felt dizzy I have sight problems anyway of which I'm seeing the Optometrists next week at the eye hospital, constant dry mouth multi trips to loo, you all know I believe what I'm experiencing, so yesterday took my self of to Doctors and was lucky that the GP whe is the diabetic Doc for the practice agreed to see me, he asked when I was put on Metformin and how many, I told him about 4 weeks and was told to take one tab every morning with food, he was concerned that I had been told not to worry just to carry on as normal as the Metformin stops me going hypo! And I would not be seen till February. No he said that's to long he then told me to double my dose of Metformin to two tabs a day one at breakfast the other at about 5pm with lunch,
So started higher dose yesterday and tested 11.7 first after B/f drop to 9.8 then lunchtime 13:00hrs 14.7 finishing at 19:30 with a reading of 17.5 . I have gone for low carbs in all meals, even found almond milk zero carbs zero sugar is ok bit nutty but not bad I do a 2 mile walk everyday and my weight is still only 87kg . But just can't get these numbers down , Also if I had not received this meter and just blindly obeyed what damage may have been done waiting till Feb? Oh saw DN who agreed to prescribe strips and stabby things for my meter. Any idea what I'm doing wrong , thank you all

You may not be doing anything wrong. But this is a very dangerous kind of diabetes, supposedly. Here is a free publication on your very complex problem. You will see that they say constant use of your meter is a necessary step.

Thank you, think I will print this out and pass it to my Doctor , it's so frustrating doing everything right and still showing highs but this morning at 05:45 had reading of 7.5 in target the first for over 25 days and the only thing I did different was skip evening meal and replacing with light snack brown wholemeal cheese sandwich followed by cup of coffee which I never drink but thought coffee can relax you and an early bedtime . I felt so guilty testing myself so many times up to four time a day, that I went to chemist and brought more strips so I was not using up the ones my doc prescribed. Thanks again
