Am about to walk the ridgeway and wondered how others on insulin manage the bgs.Have walked many paths and take orange juice to ward off any lows but recently wondering if having a carb snack every hour or so would help
Any peeps who also walk 10-18 miles daily ?would love to hear from you
Will be wearing my wristband and necklace (diabetic etc) but think its optomistic that anyone would find me if I had hypo ,darned diabetes

Thanks, that is why i take orange juice but wondering if hourly carbs would be better

On the DAFNE course (for type 1's) we were told to reduce both basal and bolus insulin's by 50% if the exercise was longer than 4 hours, I would imagine walking up to 18 miles in a day you would still need carby snacks, personally I would use oat bars or fruit but don't forget to carry plenty of glucose too.

Also remember that intensive exercise can effect bg levels for up to 24 hours after, therefore when you do finish the walk you might have to reduce your insulin doses the following day.
