Hip Pain!

So I guess I'm not sure what i'm hoping for by posting, maybe ideas for what to do next but I don't know what do next! I had really made a huge effort to exercise more (mostly walking/swimming/yoga) in the last few months of last year and was doing well, but I started to get pain in my left hip, culminating in total agony at a yoga class in January that I haven't returned to! I have then had on/off pain since January at least, with me feeling like sometimes my hip is giving way, but the pain hasn't been constant so have been putting up with it. At the end of June I decided to finally see GP but it wasn't my usual one and he made me feel stupid for going and basically said it was probably a strain and they take a while to heal (at this point it had been at least 7/8 months). I understand that i'm only 31 and apart from diabetes no other major heath problems but I felt pretty dismissed. So now the last week or two the pain has become much more severe and constant, I am taking regular paracetamol and ibuprofen and using heat packs but no relief, I am massively uncomfortable sat at my desk at work, and no positions are offering relief, the pain is bad enough that I am also feeling nauseated and at times it's bringing tears to my eyes. I booked an appointment to see my regular GP but nearest one is in 4 weeks, but when I just checked online there is an appointment in the morning for the one I saw before who I felt thought I was being stupid, I don't know if I should take it because I don't know how much longer I can cope in this much pain, my blood sugar has been ok but some random spikes. I guess i'm not sure what i'm asking but if anyone has any great ideas to relieve this i'd be indebted forever!

Maybe you should try the emergency room at the hospital if the pain is that bad and tell them what you have just described here. It sounds like you probably should have an x-ray or scan to find out what is going on and 4 weeks!! That is not acceptable if you are in that much pain. I hope you get it sorted soon and I am sending you a big hug.

I too have hip pain, hip giving way and reduced range of motion and mobility, scan diagnosed labral tear in the hip joint and a rugby shaped femur instead of round, had operation to correct problems but slipped and retorn the hip so back to square one...it took over a year to be diagnosed and currently under addenbrookes who specialise in these hip conditions

I hope things improve for you soon.
I was diagnosed with sacroiliac joint inflammation in the Summer and I too have/still are in agony, now only in walking. However I'm due to see a cardiologist after 2 scans to investigate a breathing problem and heavy chest. Heart attack ruled out, luckily. The stress of walking is at time horrific.

Hi there,
I know your only young but have you considered it may be arthritus, I only ask because my cousin was unfortunate to be diagnosed with it in his 20's. It could simply be a ligament tear that is being aggravated every time you move in a certain direction and subsequently not having the chance to heal properly.
I don't know about your surgery but ours have appointments you have to phone up and ask for; as soon as they open; which can only be booked on that day. They also do some five minutes appointments; again book on the day; for one problem only. It may well be worth booking the appointment with your own GP in 4 weeks time; if you don't need it you can cancel later; as well as making that phone call first thing in the morning to see if they run a similar scheme. There's no harm done asking the question. Failing that if its excruciatingly painful and you can't cope any more phone 111 for advise, or visit out of hours service or A&E.
Or book with other GP again, he wont be able to ignore the type of pain your describing, fully inform him of history, if he fobs you off again tell him straight its not good enough, remember your always entitled to a second opinion so ask for one.
Hope this helps?

hello I've just come across your post and hopefully you're sorted now but in case not!I had similar problems when my diabetic doctor changed me from lantus to levemer it started with swelling in the ankles and joint pain [ankles knees and hips], until such point as i was struggling to walk up and down the stairs gp said it was probably arthritis related and see how it goes, fortunately my wife came across a thread on this site about it [joint pain and levemir] i asked at my next diabetic appointment and they said it wouldn't be that causing it and I should keep on with the levemeir in desperation I went back to using some lantus that i still had and eureka! pains just faded away over the coarse of a week or so and now i am pain free
