Perfectly safe. All the diet fizzy frinks are safe, although check the nutritionl value to be sure. Fanta do zero sugar orange and lemon cans which are nice. Robinsons R no added sugar cordials are good for non-fizzy drinks

Thanks Grazer, I do drink Robinsons Special R when drinking non fizzy drinks, so know i'm okay with that, just wasnt sure about diet coke etc, thank you for clearing that up for me, love fanta lemon too, so i know i have a few options now when i feel the need for some fizzy drinks.

Gotta love this forum, everyones so nice and helpful.

Thanks again

Made a booboo today, got up thinking I had my first appointment with the diabetic nurse to get down to the surgery and find it closed!!! Public holiday here in Scotland :( So disappointed that I didnt get seen today, i just want to know where i'm going and what to expect on the way....

What happens at your first appointment etc? I know everyones probably different but i'm worried sick to be honest...

Thanks

Hi Sharon,
I'm new here too, pre-diabetic, I have just started to use a juicer , I know its very filling, but they are delicious,
but you have to be careful doing this, in case you increase your bs.
I am doing apple and ginger to start of slowly. maybe you could have it an odd time. pure water is the best though.
Don't worry at all about first appointment, I was a full time carer for mum for years went along to all these, very relaxed
atmosphere, blood, weigh, general check, feet, any meds needed, then dietitian . free monitor, book to record etc.
others here will know far more, but all very relaxed.
Take care
Mellie :)

Thanks Mellie,

I just wasnt sure what to expect at first visit, thought Id be told i cant do this and cant do that and a massive lecture on why i've ended up diabetic in first place, I know why, because I didnt care about my health until now...Ive already changed a few things since being diagnosed last week and feel an improvement already, so really hope I can beat it....well, not beat it, manage it if that makes sense?

Ive sat here since being diagnosed and read a lot, so know what i should be doing in a sense but just dreading seeing the nurse

Thanks

Sharon xx

The meeting will be fine. No lectures in my experience. Just be aware that the advice you get on diet won't neccesarily be the same as you get on here! They have to follow NHS guidelines which many of us disagree with. As they say though, the proof of the pudding is in the eating! We do what we know to be right for us and are succesful in managing our sugar levels as a result.

Thanks Grazer, to be honest, I dont want to follow their guidelines as as far as i can see, they dont really have much interaction or support online, I'd rather stick to this forum and recieve as much help as I can from people that actually live with it day to day. I;ve about 6 stone to lose and was seriously thinking of doing the low carb diet as I'm not a heavy carbs eater anymore anyway, i piled the weight on drinking coke and irn bru and not getting exercise, eating pies etc...All of which ive cut out since finding out i was diabetic anyway.

I could sit here for hours just reading all the posts etc and not feel too confused with it all

Hi Sharon,
Never you worry about the nurse , she just mainly talks to you about diet and things,
how you feel, how to monitor etc. normally stay in touch to help you monitor if you
have to, I understand your fears, but I have never experienced anybody
being lectured. everybody tries to help.
A funny story, my mum had many illness as well as diabetes , she never had a sweet
tooth, not like me I loved chocolate, anyway after they got to know her a
while , not long mind you, they where all calling her the skinny diabetic, even docs,
all very friendly. so it's not always your lifestyle, don't you worry a bit, it's a piece
of cake , Oops and wouldn't we all like a piece. sry folks .
Take care
Mellie

lol millie, i'm not a cake hand, my downfall was chocolate and cans of fizzy drinks, I used to eat one meal a day and have the odd roll for breakfast, so years of eating and drinking like this have finally taken their toll on my health.. I lost 3 and a half stone a few years ago just going to the gym, but no longer get the exercise that I used to due to having COPD.

Sharon xx

(((((((((Hugs))))))))) COPD not easy. I had started to drink coke not so long ago,
have stopped it now. full of suger. but as you say water is so boring,
you will be o.k. stay on site, they seem a good crowd.
Mellie

Thanks Millie,

I used to drink about 6 or 7 cans per day, i've now cut it down to around 3 cans of diet coke a day, rest of the time, i drink diluting juice, hate plain water but sometimes have some with a squeeze of lime in it just to take the taste away.

I love this site, full of friendly and helpful people, found more information just on here than ive found anywhere else

hugs
