Sorry, if you really mean you have an appointment of Christmas Eve just hope it's with the Spirit of Christmas Present and not Marley.

Good luck lizdeluz and hope all goes well, I had an Ophthalmology appointment last week but it was put back to January.

Good luck tomorrow. I actually have no hospital appointments until January 2015, :D

Have a wonderful Christmas

RRB :)

Good luck lizdeluz and hope all goes well, I had an Ophthalmology appointment last week but it was put back to January.

Thank you, noblehead!
Sorry about your Ophthalmology appt!
I was due to have my clinic appointment in November. I turned up for it at the correct time, but was told at the desk that my appointment wasn't taking place! I received a letter about this cancellation the following day :D! To be fair to them, they had already sent a phone message which I hadn't picked up! They rescheduled my appointment for tomorrow, Christmas Eve.

The strange thing was that the clinic was happening - there were loads of patients waiting there, but another unfortunate uninformed turned up while I was standing at the desk, and was also told that his appointment was cancelled for that day.

I guess that perhaps one of the consultants was ill or absent for other reasons, and they had to quickly reduce the list of consultations on the basis of urgency perhaps. Who knows? I might find out tomorrow. :)

I'm fine with the cancellation lizdelux, as you know they are rushed off their feet in these clinics and have to prioritise the most urgent case, anyway good luck for today and hope all goes well, it will be a nice start to your Christmas if your told all is well :).

@lizdeluz I hope your appointment goes well today. :)

@zand, thank you, yes, it went well, the consultant was pleased with my overall blood sugar control, my aches and pains we put down to getting old :D But unfortunately, he thought my cholesterol was too high, and he sent me for a blood test to check the current state of my lipids with a promise to send me a letter/recall if there is cause for concern. So, I need to do my homework again on lipids: I thought at one time that I understood them, but I've forgotten my reading, so that's not much use!
Wishing you a lovely Christmas, :)

Oh well, let's hope it's better than he thinks! I'm glad the rest was pleasing anyway. Well done :)

Yes you have a lovely Christmas too :)

Read up on cholestrol breakdown before you start panicking! Remember HDL, LDL and triglycerides LDL can appear too high but it splits and standard cholestrol test doesn't account for breakdown of LDL. My LDL too high on surface as is 5. But! What is LDL breakdown?! Triglycerades 0.51 which is superb. This is the really nasty cholestrol! Have yet to meet anyone with lower trigs than me! :D

Thank you! Yes, well, I'm still struggling to understand lipids as I haven't re-done my homework yet!:) But my last available results are in front of me, March '14:
  • the serum cholesterol was 5.6.
  • The HDL cholesterol was 1.7.
  • Trigs were 0.8.
  • LDL was 3.5.
  • HDL ratio was 3.3
??? Not sure what any of this means in terms of whether I should be changing my diet. I told the Prof that I was eating more fat because of low-carbing. His view was that it was the type of fat that mattered. I've been eating: butter, cream, full-fat yoghurt, cheese. I think this is ok with Bernstein et al, but maybe I'm eating too much of this stuff.

Next week I'll ask for a printout of more up-to-date results and take it from there. :)

All the best with the appointment, but at my local hospital, a last minute cancellation means either the consultants game of golf has come up, or worse, some poor bloke is in a&e, and he's working extra hard trying not to let them die.
Me, I just hope his game is good that day, and he gets to see me next time.

edited unnecessary words/points out . Anna29

Then you must have dire consultants. The consultants I work for do not take time off for golf... My diabetic consultant is always at the hospital, on call etc.. I think thats a pretty damning generalisation if your view of consultants. I have had appointments on a Sunday in a nhs hosp where the consultant turns up to do the investigations and I was the inly patient out of 3 that turned up.

Maybe mine never take time off for golf in reality.
I like to think they do though. :)

Careful Douglas - with land of make believe posts
Consultants out in this wintery freezing weather conditions playing rounds of golf 'really' ?:shifty:
They will have more sense and certainly be indoors with their families or at/in work (hospitals) .

Just remembered a close friend of mine has an new years eve
hospital appointment at 9.30am with her maxilla facial consultant .

So - yep they do work hard and are not out playing rounds of golf :p

I would apologise, if I've been miss read here.
I appreciate my consultants, and they work hard.
They don't miss appointments with us,
But, I do remember, I've been, and all their appointments had been put back, as they had been called to a&e.
I hope they made a difference, as not only the patients lives, their families, but also the consultants lives are affected by the outcome.
To me, it was a few minutes. maybe a few hours of my life, which isn't much.

But to the others, who may be life and death,I'd still rather think they were simply bunking off, even if I know it's not true.
Sometimes I need make believe.
