Hi there, I am new to the site and the mother of an amazing 10 yr old who was diagnosed type 1 diabetic and celiac when she was 5 years old. We currently live in Tenerife and I am continually asked by family members why she isn't on a pump.. for one I am not sure of the availability and two the lifestyle she leads I am not sure if its suitable.. I was wondering if there is any one out there using the pump with a child who could advise the pros and cons.. I will explain a typical day at the moment as she is on school holidays for 12 weeks.. last week she had sailing lessons, this week kayaking.. whilst doing this she also plays tennis twice a week for an hour and swims daily for the los cristianos team for an hour.. she does the swimming every month and recently won gold in her age group for butterfly in the whole of Tenerife! We also have a pool aswell as the beach.. she is in fact a mermaid lol! Do you think a pump would be advisable for the amount of time she is in the water or stick with the twice daily injections? I thank you for your time in reading this and appreciate any response. Xx

I would have hoped someone might have some input with regards to a pump? From reading it would seem over an hour in the water might be too long (swimming lessons tend to go to 1.5 hours sometimes) plus sun exposure is not recommended.. thank you anyway

Maybe start a new thread and ask the same thing again in the type 1 section? It's unusual for no-one to have replied yet. I'm sorry I'm no use to you at all because I am type 2.
