Holiday fridge for Insulin

I need help from fellow diabetics? I have been on holiday recently and stated that I am insulin dependant diabetic and need a fridge for storing Insulin. The fridge provided didnt work it was replaced with another that didn't work. As a result my insulin went off, the hotel replaced the insulin, but the rest of the holiday was swallowed up getting my sugar levels down. The list of complaint to the travel company is significant including terrible food of very poor quality a dangerous beach a four hour delay on the return flight to name just a couple of things.
Basicalyy I have been told by the travel company that I should be glad that my insulin was replaced and that my complaint was not justified. Has anyone else experienced problems with fridges and insulin storage ?
 
No I've never had a problem with insulin storage when holidaying. Just persevere and stick with your complaint, keeping record of all phone calls, e-mails and letters etc, should you not get any joy with the travel company take it up with the ombudsman or with a solicitor/citizens advice.

Three years ago I booked a short break in Northumbria in a well respected holiday park, the caravan home was old, filthy and in need of repair. After complaining I left and booked elsewhere, back home I took this up with the company, first they offered £50 refund, then 2 weeks later £100, after 3 months they offered a final offer of £200, I told them to stick it and said I would see them in the small claims courts, the next day I got a e-mail to say that the full cost of my holiday would be refunded plus £100 inconvenience money! :D

Don't give up!

As nigel says, don't give up with the claim, as travel companies will attempt to get away offering the least unless they are pushed...

I do ponder though whether your insulin did go off or whether they main problem was how your body/diabetes reacted to the change in climate...

A couple of tips for emergency back up of keeping insulin cool..

Buy a Filo pouch, this is water activated and keeps going, when the crystal start to try out, just dunk in water to reactivate...

Air tight container that your cartridges will fit into, either as whole pack or the individual cartridge blister pack will fit into, you then dunk this into a bowl of water, may have to weigh it down a bit to prevent it floating, keep replacing the water to maintain it cool... This I know from experience is very effective way of keeping insulin cool.. And remember to keep it all out of direct sunlight...

But if you are in different climate that you aren't used to, and you have replaced your supplies for new and still experiencing problems with blood glucose, then it's more likely that it wasn't the insulin going off but your reaction to the change in climate that has effected your control..
 
Thanks for your support nigel. I do use a frio bag for transportation but use one whole vial a day and the ammount is difficult to accomodate. I am in the process of changing my insulin. I contacted Lilly who make my insulin and they have given me some feedback.
 
I've never experienced that kind of action. We know that insulin was very important for those who have diabetics. And it is important to have a best storage for the insulin to make it into a good quality.
