Type 1
My son (11 years old) has been diagnosed type 1, we are going on holiday to Tenerife in April, and would like to ask who are the best insurance to go with, any advice would be much appreciated. It is all still very new and scary to us as a family. Thanks . Jane

Hi Jane and welcome to the forum :)

I can't recommend any, it pays to shop around to get the best policy and price, maybe try the price comparison websites as I often get good deals on insurance when using them.

Good luck and hope you all have a great time.

Hi Jane. I remember going on holiday when I was first diagnosed at 13. It's a scary time but just make sure you prepare hypo treatments etc and you'll still have a great time!

I'm not sure where you're based but I upgraded my bank account to one which includes travel insurance. I found a lot of companies charged a premium for having type 1 but my Nationwide insurer doesn't. I pay £10 a month and it also includes breakdown cover, phone insurance and other things and that includes all those things for my husband too so would probably include your son. It works out better value than insuring separately. I haven't had to claim yet but have used the breakdown cover and they sorted it all without any fuss.

@Bizzy-Bee that's good to hear! I'm with the nationwide & have that insurance, was intending on giving them a call to check that they cover my diabetes ☺
