hello im a type 2 insulin dependant and im going abroad for the first tim in september , can i ask does anyone know what i do with my injections and in sulin , do i put them in my case or in my hand luggage , i will have my pen injection with me at all times in my pocket but do i have to tell them etc cause of needles

Hi,

You need your insulin in yor hand luggage as the temperature where the luggage is stored isn't suitable to store insulin,

I also reccomend you give someone else some insulin and supplies to carry after you get through checks etc so if something happens to your hand luggage you still have supplies.

You'll need a letter clearly stating you can't have insulin in your baggage and it must be in your hand luggage including sharps.

Your doctor may charge you for this but i asked my diabetes specialist and she did one free of charge :)

Also remember to take extra than you will need as on holiday with the teperature and unusual eating habits may require more testing and injections.

also handy to learn how to say i am insulin dependant diabetic in the native language you are visiting incase of emergency as language barrier may be harmful in an urgent situation.

have a good holiday :)

no problem at all :o)

best to be prepared!

ooh ibiza! sounds good clubbing or no clubbing...

hope it all goes well and you have a great time!

Don't forget to list the morphine on your doctor's letter! That ain't gonna get through customs without a good explanation :-)
also decent travel insurance is a good idea. And if it's going to be very hot you might want a coolbag thingy to keep your insulin in. Frio is a good make. Insulin can get denatured if it's too hot and won't work.
Bring your usual hypo treatment in case you can't find the same thing on holiday, and beware of bread! I found that a lot of bread in Tenerife has tons of sugar in, so you can't rely on your usual estimates if carbs in a sandwich.
Try to lay off those clubbing drugs :-)
have a great holiday!

thankyou i will get the morphine put on my letter and yes i have a cool wallet for my insulin and thanks for the tip about the bread , , i wii leave the club drugs alone i have enough to make me high etc with the morphine lol cheers dave
