I've been dreading this Christmas as it will be the first with diabetes. I love all the xmas food and sweets especially my mum's home made tablet (made with 1lb sugar)

Anyway she made her usual "practice" batch today. I had one small piece and 2 hrs later my BG reading was 6.4 :D . So, guess what I (stupidly) did-had another piece of course

My hb1ac is due on Thursday-just hope I haven't messed it up.

Hi
Like yourself i love all the xmas food so i tend to have a small amount, but then i am a Type 1 and have been for 36yrs, i am now 42yrs old, so i would give myself extra units of insulin in the past, but over the last 5-6yrs ago i had to change my ways, as i have never listen to anyone, would eat and drink all the wrong things and now i Have some complications ( especially with my eyes) Lost my driving licience 2 yrs ago due sight problems, now waiting to have an op to remove the vitreous jelly as my left eye doesn't stop bleeding. So please look after yourself and listen to all the advice.
Take care
Tracey

Ha. You can't blow your HbA1c with two slices of cake. (Three slices is altogether different though).

The good thing about having a HbA1c now is that whatever you do during Christmas won't have a big effect on the next one. I reckon you should have another two slices on Thursday night!

When I was a kid, my Dad would only ever make us 3 pancakes at a time. When we asked him why, he used to say "If you eat more than three pancakes you will die". A bit of me still believes that is true...

Tablet not cake !

a weel kent scottish delicacy ..

1 pint/500ml water
8oz/225g butter, chopped into pieces
4 lbs/1.8kg super fine/caster sugar
1lb/450g of condensed milk
Optional
Flavorings as desired*

Enough sugar to make you hyper --

Lovely stuff but I won't go near it any more .

That's what I thought, Hamish, but I couldn't resist and the will power just disappeared

Nothing beats home made tablet. It's nothing like cake-more like a kind of hard fudge. So sweet :D

Marina, kindly explain to this sassenach what the heck this is and how is it made. I asked the OH (fae Glasca  ) what it is..the answer was "I dunno hen".

Pffft. Men!

My teeth ache just looking at it!!

Your link is perfect Angie.

That is exactly what tablet looks like and the recipe is spot on. My mum makes brilliant tablet to die for. I had another bit earlier on (3rd tonight-or is it 4th  ). Just tested and BG level is 5.1
Am I getting away with it or will it hit me tomorrow   ??

I'm craving it so badly now!

I've not had it for over a year. I fear once I start I won't stop. However I may keep some aside to deal with any hypos :lolno:

No tablet is allowed in this house because it is so more'ish.

The same goes for gypsy creams and empire biscuits.

I haven't tested for tablet yet but I've got a packet upstairs that I got for my birthday. Problem is that if I open it I'll finish it and I don't think that'll be very good for my BG levels :|

On a similar note, I had some puff candy crunched through my ice cream the other night and my 2 hour level was over 10 (very bad for me). Again, I think it's just sugar in a different physical form.
