I test myself regularly as I’ve been to the docs many times but been told in no uncertain terms I do not have diabetes. But sometimes I ’ve felt so ill I’ve nearly passed out.... my bloods range from at my worst 2.3 IMG_0631.jpg to my highest IMG_0632.jpg. However only tbe couple of occasions I’ve had my bloods checked at the docs they say I’m not a diabetic... can anyone throw on light on this please. I’m getting big trying to control the lows.... as soon as I feel faint and my hands start shaking I dive into an eating frenzy to try to feel normal again. Another thing I’ve noticed sometimes I wake up feeling like I’ve been on the beer all night and have pounding headaches.

Welcome. We can’t diagnose but we can make suggestions and give you ideas to check out.

Presumably those test strips are in date etc they do look quite low/high. Though non diabetics can and do go high or low at times for other reasons and that might be the case for you too.

What tests have they done? With what results? How often do you get those low numbers? Is it after particular meals or foods? How often? Do you test with the hangover feeling?

I’m wondering if they considered reactive hypoglycaemia. It’s not diabetes and could easily give normal numbers on hb1ac but it’s when you react to carbohydrates with a high spike followed by excessive insulin response taking you low afterwards. Overall the averages look fine. But the makeup of them isn’t. There’s a section of the forum dedicated to this condition here https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/category/reactive-hypoglycemia.70/ if you want to check it out further.

A low number doesn’t need an eating frenzy. Just a bit of fast acting carbs (oj, glucose tablet, normal coke etc) to get you heading up and then something slower acting to keep it there. If it is RH a mega glucose feast will likely start the cycle all over again, high and then low.

Thank you for your response, the docs have done blood tests a few times over the years as this condition is not new to me it’s been going on for years but probably due to age is happening a lot more frequently. The test strips are all in date. The low readings can come at anytime, that reading of 2.7 I had woke feeling like I’d been on the booze all night and had the shakes in my hands for well over an hour so as an after thought I checked my bloods and realised it was super low, after I ate chocolates, biscuits and couple rounds of bread it rose to 4.7 and I was feeling lots better and the shaking went. It’s also happened when I’ve been out shopping, I go pale, start feeling woozy and stat shaking at which point I head straight to the chocolate isle lol I’ve also had it occur when I’ve just woke up and during the night. I suffer hypothyroidism maybe it’s that which is causing my bloods to be irrational at times.

Hi there, it must be horrible when you feel like that. If the GP is saying 'No' to diabetes, then WHAT do they think it is then?

Sounds horrible.
Do you know what blood tests were done? What is his plan to find out what is happening. “Nothing” is not an acceptable answer from him and maybe he should be referring you to an endocrinologist both for the irregular bgl and the thyroid in case that is relevant.
