I have started making my own creams and made a cream/ointment for my psoriasis which had a tsp of honey in it. Since I put it on last night my bg's have been a little bit higher than the normal. I've done some googling but can't find an answer as to whether the sugar could be absorbed through my skin?

Has anybody had any experience with this.

Did you make sure you had washed your fingers really well after applying it?

Yes I tested at 6.5 and then went and washed my hands really well again and retested at 6.2. I would normally be in the low 4's at night as my bg rises through the night. I have been about 2 points up all day for no reason and this is the only thing I have changed. I am going to not use it for a few days and then use it again to see if they rise again then I will know.

This is a joke, isn't it?

Approx 60% of creams and lotions is absorbed through the skin (said some random beauty expert on TV some time ago).

So, did you use the whole pot of cream?
If yes, you will have absorbed 60% of 1 teasp of honey, say 4 g of carbs.
I am seriously impressed if you manage to have raised bg several hours after 4 g carbs!
And of course, if you didn't use the whole pot, then we are talking far less than one gram of carbs.

Any chance you might have eaten or drunk something containing carbs sometime between applying the cream and measuring your blood glucose?

It could just be that your numbers are slightly higher than normal for you due to a change in routine due to the Christmas celebrations.

@Brunneria .. no not a joke actually. I can't eat honey as it spikes me so putting a cream on my skin which is 1/3 honey I wondered whether it would absorb. Simple question but glad honey works for you.

I didn't use the cream for 3 days and was ok, used the cream again and went up again so in my personal case then honey in a cream is not ok. I have recently come off high insulin and trying to keep my figures below 6 means every point counts.
