Hi All,

I am a type 1 , i was diagnosed last december after mounths of loosing weight and the rest that comes with it.
I wounder if anyone can shead some light on this,
I am being told iam still in the honeymoon peroid as im only takinging 8 units of long lasting and most of th time non of my novarapid before meals,

take today for example, my levels today before lunch (12.00) were,5.6 i went out for my luch and had a large jacket potato with tuna and salad and half of a small sauage roll. it is now 12.50 and i have just tested again and they are only 7.6...

but at other times i can have levels that are over 15-17 after eating the same meal amd the same suger level.

i have been diagnosed for 8 mounths , how long can the honeymoon peroid last?

Thanks Colin

Hi Colin

I was diagnosed this time last year ... I am still on my honeymoon. From talking to others it can take anywhere from 6 months to 5 years for it to finish doing its rollercoaster thing..

During the last year I have had periods like you are in now. I went from 20 units a day initially, down to only 4 per day. So I started on just bolus so I could eat more erratically! That worked for a few months and now I am back to Basal of 3 units at night and no Basal during the day. So long as I low carb, I rarely need any bolus.

As to the fluctuation after the same meal ... I'm probably too new to comment but someone will come along soon. I would look at the activity levels - they can radically affect the food effects/insulin, and any variation in terms of size of potato/sausage roll.

Hope that helps till someone more experienced comes along with more info.

Thanks mate,

yes its hard to gage isnt it..... Im finding i test myself around 10 times dailey if not more to be safe as i have hypo's and hyper's in the same day..
