Hey,

Does anyone know how to tell if you’re experiencing, or are out of a honeymoon phase as a type 1 diabetic?

I’ve been type 1 for four and a half months now and take around 1 unit of insulin per 10g of carbs, although this changes slightly depending on the time of day. I’m 22, male, 5”10’ and weigh probably around 9st 5ish. My blood pressure is good, my diet is really good and my cholesterol too (3.8). I try to exercise most days although I could do with a bit more muscle. My Dexcom G6 thinks my eA1C is around 5.4% now, so I have decent control. Which all does seem slightly too good and easy to be true. Is this gonna get significantly harder at some point?

I’ve seen some people say they inject scarily huge amounts of insulin. Am I gonna end up having to up my insulin dose? What’s a typical dose for say a 50g carb meal for a post-honeymoon phase type one? Or am I already out of it, since I do get far less lows now than i did initially.

This was just a passing thought, any explanation would be appreciated, (sorry if i over shared on the specifics not sure what affects this) thank you :)

Hi. Everyone is different so it is impossible to tell although a c-peptide test might give some indication. I wouldn't worry as you seem to be doing well. People who use 'scary' amounts of insulin are likely to have insulin resistance which with your BMI is unlikely. My insulin needs have slowly grown over 5 years since I started. My BMI is good so I don't have insulin resistance. I don't have large amounts of insulin (16 Basal and a Bolus ratio of perhaps 1.2) so I suspect you may also not see a large increase?
