Type of diabetes
Type 1
Hi there, I am just about to turn 32 and my wife and I would like to try for a baby. I will have type 1 diabetes for 20 years this year and was wondering if any other male type 1 diabetics found it easy, hard or not at all able to conceive.

If it's any help, I was 25 when my daughter was conceived and I had already been Type 1 for 24 years! I must say that I come from 2 genetic lines of auto immune problems which included rheumatoid arthritis and asthma, but I was the first diabetic. My wife and I went to see our GP about the chances of passing the condition on which was at the most 1 in 12. We did not think to ask about the likelihood of conception, but I can say that it was not a problem in spite of the fact that I had already had kidney problems for at least 9 years and I had had laser treatment for both retinas. My daughter is celiac, which is also an auto-immune problem, but she is certainly more than worth the effort. The very best of luck.

No idea if this will help - but for those with conception problems, then adopting a lower carb diet for both male and female partners seems to improve fertility and improve the health of the child which is more likely to be born with healthy levels of insulin ( both underweight and overweight babies have high insulin levels ) -
My own friend has been merrily not getting pregnant for years without contraception, but within 5 months of low carbing - boom!
