Hormones and Diabetes

Hello everyone. I am a type 2 diabetic and have been on metformin for a number of years. I have always coped well with my diabetes and know which foods tend to push up my BS. Anyway I just wondered if any one had any experience of HRT and Diabetes. I have been on HRT for 10 years and recently tried to reduce the dosage due to national shortages (under my doc) and was nearly off of it but started feeling all shaky last week after walking 5 miles and BS seemed a bit up and down although could be seen as perfect if I had felt ok... normally around 6 first thing, then 5/6/before lunch and then around 7 teatime. I have been extra hungry all the time and feel as If I need to eat earlier for lunch then tea. Spoke to doc who has told me I may be suffering HRT withdrawals which seem to be affecting BS so have increased HRT as doc managed to get some and today feel a lot better but still have shaky periods...has anyone else experienced this...is it normal? Spoke to doc today who said see how it goes and if still feel like this then FBC but hopefully just the hormones!!! Any advice gratefully received.

Estrogen?

I’ve had an embarrassingly minor go at menopause (just hit 1 year sans periods yay!) but my doctor and I still discussed HRT.

One thing I can say is I had a few random periods after my T2 diagnosis and my BG was totally wonky- weirdly, mostly lows during, but really just all over the board. So, I do think unpredictable BG goes with hormone fluctuations. Is the HRT still helping? If not, coming off of it may be a wild ride, but should settle down in time.

Oestrogen yes [HRT patch). Seems to have settle down now but still shaky feelings at times and mine were lower figures, which were excellent (for me) but after trying to come off them I suddenly dipped and doc thought it was too quick so back on them again! I think I must still need them (been on them 11 years after hysterectomy at 38) x
