I ate a bag of crisps and got a hot flash. Face went hot and felt slightly giddy and a bit anxious. Lasted a few minutes. I have had it a few times lately. Measured BG 15 mins later and was 12.4 mmol/L. Anyone else get this? Cheers

If my blood sugars spike fast, yeah... Which would happen, with crisps.

Thanks. Made me feel quite confused for a minute. I really don't snack that much. I just felt hungry. What would be a better snack that would not cause a spike?

I think your glucose meter and your body are trying to tell you that it would rather have a low carb snack , cheese, cold meats, olives, pork scratchings any thing but crisps

I love pitted black olives. Gonna get some next shop Thanks

Hi,

Yeah.. Even for me. (Trying to get the basal right.) some of those bags can be around 30g? With the sweeteners used for some sort of Thia or BBQ rib type flavour?
Let's face it. A junk snack at the end of the day.

Pork scratchings. Or see how your meter fairs with something like chicken fridge raiders? (Which is around 10% carb content of crisps.) probably necking some ham if just a quick snack up?

Are you generally a low carber, @type two paul ? I can sometimes feel like that over treating a low on fast acting.

Hiya, I wouldn't say I'm a low carber but I'm not excessive on carbs either. When I watch some of these food programmes on TV I reckon I'm not too bad, but obviously with the diabetes my body can't tolerate this stuff like when I was a young whipper snapper. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm slowly adjusting.

Fair enough,

Well, the good news is you have a meter. Great tool to help with the adjustment. :)

What does help with the meter readings, is finding out what you were (BG wise) prior to eating a snack or meal.?
You can gain an understanding regarding any potential spikes.

Are Twiglets any good (the marmite ones) ? I had some at Christmas and I don't recall a getting a hot flash. I am definitely buying the Pork Scratchings now though as a snack.

Twiglets are 57% carbs so I'd say no way Jose..

Start to look at this info and maybe avoid anything that is more than 5 g or carbs per 100g as a rule of thumb.

Thanks for the info. Blimey, 57%. So, I should be looking at around 5%. I'm building up my next shopping list. Pork chops OK?
