Hi I have type 2 diabetes and it is controlled by saxiglyptin & metformin, my blood sugar is usually around 8.2 and am also going through the change, my hot flushes are on the increase, how can I tell if they are caused by fluctuating sugar levels or age ! I'm also trying to cut down on bread, any recommendations for a breakfast cereal / cereal bar as most seems to be over 10% per 100 gms and my diabetic nurse is very good at telling what not to eat but not what I can, I also need to reduce my carbs which is hard for a pasta junkie

My hot flushes disappeared when I got my bg down to normal, so going low carb seems a good idea. I do LCHF.

As to breakfast cereal I think you will have to look at other options. Or yoghurt with shredded coconut and other nuts, some are lower in carbs than others. Or a cooked breakfast.

I've recently started buying Livlife bread from Waitrose. It's half carbs. It hasn't increased my bg levels and it's very tasty and filling. It's currently £1.99 bogof.
I too love my carbs but I love my sight more. So trying very hard to get my levels down, which I'm slowly getting to grips with. Good luck. X

I've just mentioned in another thread that all the regular breakfast cereals and mueslis etc. raise my BG far too high. Porridge is OK, though, especially if I add a dash of cream to it.

Eggs, either as omelettes (Spanish omelette is good), poached or scrambled seem to be OK for me, and sometimes even lower my BG levels from what they had been before the meal.
