Hello, I was supposed to have a IGF test last year after a borderline HbAic but put it off for several reasons and the locum doctor won't even entertain the idea now and treats me as a hypochondriac. I have had an underactive thyroid for many years, so put the tiredness down to that, but have suffered blurred vision, thirst and dizzy spells for some time now, the latter particularly when I'm hungry. I dropped about 30 lbs and try to be as active as possible but lately have been getting tingling in my feet and tonight, despite the cold, my feet were so hot I'm sitting here barefoot, and my heels feel very sore and sensitive. So, I'm not sure if I've got chilblains or something more sinister. I did change my diet but didn't completely cut out carbs and sugar.
Any advice please, and is a GP allowed to refuse to refer me to an endocrinologist? I always seem to get palmed off onto the newly qualified GPs and to be frank, they're not fit for purpose.

With classic symptoms thirst is usally accompanied be excessive weeing as the body tries to flush out ketones, and pre diagnosis weight loss isn't voluntary. I know this from personal experience. I am not saying it's not diabetes but it may be something else.

Well of course what goes in has to come out. You've been as much help as my GP thanks.

I am sorry, but we cannot diagnose what is ailing you or causing your feet to be hot and tingly. @urbanracer was only describing the most prominent symptom that leads to a diagnosis of diabetes.

In my personal experience, hot feet can be a symptom of high blood glucose levels. You can get a finger prick test at the chemist if you are concerned.

High levels can also cause irritability and rudeness.

10 outta 10 for that :)

Hi cyclonic

You will get as much out of this forum as you put in. I personally have learnt more from the post of fellow diabetics who have been diabetic for much longer than me than I have from any other source including links to videos, articles etc.

If you are not happy with your GP you are entitled to ask for a referral for a second opinion; I think you do need some investigations done and if your GP won't do them then get some other doctor to it.

As Avocado said, you could have a glucose done at a pharmacy and that will at least tell you if your symptoms are caused by diabetes and you could then go back to your GP armed with the result if your glucose was high and get something done.
