Hot weather and extreme readings

On the the heat thing, I was 4.7 before dinner which is I think, the lowest reading I have ever had on this particular meter.

That's really good. Mine was 4.3 before and 5.1 two hours after so I'm not there yet as I still have to take metformin. But I've lost 20 kilos and gone from 44 units of insulin a day to no insulin and my prescription for insulin being cancelled by the specialist at the Diabetes clinic so I'm pleased with progress.

(My goal is non-diabetic readings controlled just by diet and exercise. I'll settle for diet, exercise, and metformin if I have to but am hoping to manage it with just diet and exercise).

so what did you do to bring it to normal levels ? thats pretty much how mine is at this time

Well something is mucking up my daily averages.. I'm usually sixes with a daily 5 or 4.5 or so. This last three or four days of hot weather I'v been getting 7s and 8s. The other morning at 5am it was 11.4!

I went on a drastic diet for a few weeks. And by drastic I mean 600 calories a day. It was hellishly difficult but I only needed to do it for a few weeks. I'm doing again at the moment because although I lost 20 kilos I still need to lose more. Once the diet had kickstarted the process of getting my diabetes under control I gradually changed what I ate so that I never (or almost never) eat:

Sugar or sugary products
Starchy foods.

None of this is easy at first but I went from feeling exhausted and slightly ill all the time to having an enjoyable life again in the space of a few weeks.

There are Nintety six hours and and thirty three minutes to go before Bacon Breakfast Day Aaaaaaarrrrrggghhhh
There are few carbs in bacon - why is it 96:33 to go?

Unless you have to kill the pig of course...

Im feeling really poorly at the moment even had to take some time out from work, so i take on board all your advice just want to feel well again

I'm in the process of losing another 20 kilos. But am treating myself on my birthday. When I was a child (I grew up on a farm) I had a new pet pig every few years. I called them all "breakfast" which horrified the teacher at my primary school but amused my siblings all of whom had called their pigs things like "spot".

You'll be amazed at how your life will improve once you get your blood sugars down. It's the difference between bumping along the bottom and feeling a bit ill all the time and actually having an enjoyable life.

Good question.
What is a typical days food for you Sharon?
Well yesterday had one slice of toast for breakfast , shape yogurt for lunch and fish with a couple of oven chips for dinner, but usually i have oatibix times 2 with skimmed milk , slice of toast for lunch and i work afternoons so i usually have a weightwatchers meal when i get home.
Ive been reading the forum and i noticed that a lot of you are on low carb diets so i thought ide try it too so for breakfat im having greek style plain yogurt with fresh berries , lunch im making an ommlette with onion and tomato dinner any suggestions would be cool.

Quite a lot of high carb stuff there. Your carbs are coming from:

  • The toast
  • The oatibix
  • The chips
If you drastically reduce or even better eliminate starchy foods and sugary foods your blood sugars will come down. I've made some suggestions in your other thread.

Yesterday i had greek style yogurt with berries and a sausage for breakfast ,took it with my meds , and 2 hours later my blood sugars were the lowest they had been for weeks at 9.6 so by leaving out the toast i did see a vast difference :)
