How about NO-carb???

That's a great article Ali, thanks for posting it.
I particularly liked the part about no-carb / low-carb athletes not hitting the wall during endurance events. That's exactly what I've found also, but there is nothing in the sports journals about it.
When you stop and think about it of course, it makes perfect sense. The body can store very few calories as glucose or glycogen, so that supply inevitably runs out just when you need it most.
Fat however can supply tens of thousands of calories from the resources stashed around the body, so that energy source, if the body is trained to use it, will supply abundant fuel for almost any endurance event.

All the best,

Do y'all think its a question of training your body to run on a different fuel then? When I tell people I low carb they all go on about 'but you need carbs for energy' and how devoid of energy they feel if they don't get their daily bread. Forgetting of course that the measure of energy in food is calories, not carbs

Most people haven't a clue what a calorie, or Calorie or even a joule is

Hi AC,

Yes, absolutely. When anyone bonks, or hits the wall, their body is switching from burning glucose for energy to burning fat. It hurts like hell. If, on the other hand, your body is accustomed to burning fat on a daily basis that energy source is much more easily accessible.
To say we have to have carbs for energy is like saying we have to have paraffin for fuel!

Cheers,

fergus
