How can I rely on my glucose monitor?

It was just a fasting glucose test not HBA1C

You are comparing results from a lab with your glucose meter. It's highly likely that your meter is measuring whole blood and the lab has used the plasma. they can get the results through quicker using plasma although plasma results are usually around 12% higher than whole blood results

Home meters measure whole blood because that's what comes out of your finger but the meter does a correction to show the equivalent plasma reading on the display. Labs are able to separate out the plasma and read it directly but the results should be similar, allowing for the accuracy of the meter.
