Can someone out there can explain to me why, for the last couple of days, my blood test readings have been higher after fasting than before :?:
I usually test when I get up and, recently, the first reading of the day has been higher than my last reading the previous day :!:
How can this be :?:
Unless I'm sleep walking and raiding the fridge I can't see how this is possible

Dawn Phenomenon? Is a natural part of the bodies circadian rhythms. Overnight, usually between 4am and 11am, your body releases some hormones. These are Growth Hormone from the anterior pituitary gland, cortisol from the adrenal cortex, glucagon from your pancreatic alpha-cells, and epinephrine (adrenalin). These hormones cause an increase in insulin resistance, raising your BG. In addition, these hormones trigger glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis, adding stored or new glucose to your bloodstream (see here).

Regards, Tubs.
