Hello
Is there anyone out there who has managed to overcome long-lasting depression and manage Type 1. I'm 65 this year and was diagnosed as Type 1 in 1986, and have taken insulin throughout. My GP first prescribed anti-depressants in 1995, and I've been on them ever since. I've had several courses of "talking therapy", and tried different anti-depressants, but my mood is generally low and my diabetic control isn't good.I think that I'm in a cycle where my control is poor because my mood is low.....and my mood is low because my Hba1c results are too high (100+)

I need to break out of this cycle - has anyone any ideas?

Don't sit in the house, think of any excuse to get out, allotments are good

Niel,

I'm not dissing the allotment idea but you are only 65, I would say get out and about and RUN, RUN, RUN! Start off small and maybe even join a running group (which is fun and provides some good social occasions). I don't know if you are physically restricted of course but I find running (slow or fast) lifts the mood, keeps the glucose levels down and keeps you mobile and healthy. Obviously food plays a massive part and I don't know what you are eating (maybe too many carbs?), and you have to be very careful with insulin dose adjustments and avoiding hypo's BUT it is really worthwhile and great to get out into the fresh air. I know exercise is not necessary for reducing glucose levels but I do think it is excellent in helping with depression.

Hello @Niel I started walking a year ago and found just getting out into the fresh air and walking through the countryside a great way of lifting the spirits, clean air and outdoors whether it’s running or walking will help hugely.
