Tattoos are not available on the NHS (but their removal is). There are thin plastic templates available, free of charge, for just this issue. The one I have covers the belly and the thighs. It is simply a thin sheet of plastic with 20mm holes in it. I had to lean on the specialist diabetic nurse pretty hard before she would even admit to having seen them, but eventually she produced one from her desk drawer - but that is the NHS for you.
always suck it off - only time I haven't is when I've been in hospital and someone else (a nurse) has been doing my blood tests and finger pricking for me - I was in no fit state to argue so I just let them wipe with alcohol swabs before and with tissue after.

I do! Sometime if I squeeze too hard, blood oozes out of half a dozen holes! I'm keeping to one finger in the hope it will turn to leather and wont hurt any more.
