How do you know?

Good luck with this.
I can only agree with everyone who suggests decreasing carbs in steps and testing testing testing.

As said above, you really do need advice from experienced medical professionals for meds advice - and the only common sense suggestion i can make is to suggest you go in reverse order, so that the med you were prescribed last, is the first one you consider reducing.

Hope that makes sense.

Nanoo, just a suggestion. Given that you live in the sticks, and your GP is unsupportive of your care, could you request a referral to the hospital diabetes clinic? Given that your Hashimoto's is not being treated, that you are on insulin and forgetful, I think you are entitled to expect some decent support. There is also a list of things that your care is supposed to consist of, and you certainly aren't getting them! Mind you - I don't think many of us are:confused:

Finsky, thank you, what a lovely response. I am really touched. I have to make an appointment with the private doctor on Monday, and make a list of all the things I need to talk to her about - as it is private, I get a whole hour!!! Then we will see after that. I will let you all know how things go. SO good to have this forum, sometimes I feel so alone with this disease. Have a lovely weekend.
If you are able...print out some info about LCHF diet...try dietdoctor. com...just to give some idea for the doctor what you are actually eating/doing as the diet's name does give kind of wrong impression what it is all about and to confirm that it is actually very sensible diet to follow. When I first mentioned it to my hubby...he was picturing me chomping into chunks of lard  ..but now that he knows more and is doing it himself...it just is down eating good common sense food.
Have a good weekend too....and let us know what happens next..

In the three years that I have been living here, my doctors have never mentioned a diabetes clinic, and in checking the hospital website, I cannot see one. I have seen a diabetes specialist there, but he was no help. What should I request? I have a very comprehensive private insurance and have asked for private appointments, but they don't seem to understand. I was told by my GP there was not one private GP in the COUNTY!!!

Have you tried talking to your insurer about Consultants/GPs that they might be able to direct you to? What county are you in?

Do you actually live in Belgium or the UK? That will effect any advice.

I hope the list of private GPs was helpful.

I'm in the UK.
@nannoo_bird , I would be astonished if you actually found no GP in your area doing private work, in diabetes. That would not stop a GP (indeed any GP, who was not ethically completely against private medicine) making a referral to specialist diabetes care or dietary support. Where they might struggle it to make such a referral to the NHS aspect of such care.

In the areas of the UK where I live, I can access a wholly private GP, or someone doing some private work, or even an NHS doctor merely making out private prescriptions, depending on their moral/ethical stance and the depth of my (or my insurer's) pockets. Utilising my insurers, I can where considered justified by the private GP access specialist private services of a Consultant.

What no Consultant worth their salt will do is advise any patient they don't understand so I expect any consultant would routinely prescribe pretty comprehensive blood panels from which to make their recommendations, if any.

Overseas, I just decide what I want an go and buy it - then go for reimbursement or otherwise by my providers.
