How can I reduce my blood glucose levels when I am already slim? A low carb diet is making me lose too much weight

Rivergirl, my steer to you would be firstly, just increase your portion sizes a bit at each meal, but focusing on protein, then fats.

A well known doctor in the world of T2 suggests we should be moderating our carbs to satisfy our blood glucose meters, and moderating the fats to satisfy the bathroom scales.

I'm a small slight person who has been at a stable weight for over 9 years. It is extremely doable, but you do have to find your own solution, but upping proteins and fats won't see you going too far wrong.

Firstly I would ask my doc for a fasting insulin test & perhaps antibody tests to rule out variations of T1.
Further info required but at least it will confirm your diagnosis.
In the meantime continue low carb but increase protein/fat.

You're listed as prediabetic, and on your profile it says you're on Amlodipine, is that all correct? Because very, very rarely, Amlodipine can raise blood sugars some. (As can statins, are you on any of those?) What are your blood sugars looking like on a day to day basis? Do you test around your meals, and what are you eating?

I have no idea whether this is correct, but go with me for a bit. Type 2 diabetes is a progressive condition and you tackle that with diet, meds or both. If this is being caused by medication though, not because you're inclined to develop diabetes, it might, and I am saying this with a big might indeed... MIGHT be you'll just stay stuck in the prediabetic range without progressing further. But that's if it's due to the medication you're on (and I'm guessing you're not taking that for the heck of it), then maybe accept the prediabetic readings? Just keep an eye on things so they don't escalate to diabetes, and also do as @Ronancastled suggested, and get some testing done? The medication you're on can also, very rarely, cause pancreatitis, so... Keep on top of things and don't be afraid to ask for tests!

If you want to keep on the diet route, just add in more protein if you can. I'm guessing additional fats are out of the question, seeing the medication you're on? Bigger meals would be a good idea for the time being. And if I am talking out of, what the Dutch call, the back of my neck, I'm sure someone'll jump in and correct me.
