Hi, im just curious how a cup of tea affects you bg and if you take insulin for it?

My bg was 8.6 and after a cuppa and 30 mins it went up to 11.2. I use sweetener and milk

I wouldn't have expected such a rise in you B/G from 8.6 to 11.2 in 30 mins with just the one cup of unsweetend tea, though you should be aware that MILK does contain both Carbohydrates as well as a simple sugar in its composition, though I would have thought in such a small amount that would not have given you such a rise.
You may need to do some more 'detective' work on yourself to eliminate both the Milk and artificial sweetner, bearing in mind that the human body will be constantly changing, so B/G levels will never stay at the same level for more than a couple of minutes. Most probably the high rise in you B/G is being caused by the MILK, but you may also find that you may be intolerant to the type of sweetner that you are currently using, and changing over to an alternative brand is the answer if the MILK dosn't conclusively prove to be the problem.

Hi,

Milk was the hypo correction advice I had as a kid back in the 70's.. Along with a digestive biscuit.
It still tends to be the hypo comfort drink of choice even now for me..

I don't do tea. It tastes like liquid halitosis..!

I knew milk had carbs in it but didnt think that little would make my sugar level rise that much. Maybe i'll try it black

Also, be aware, some sweeteners can affect blood sugar as far as I know.
The easiest way is to try to remove each component (milk and sweetener) and see if that changes anything.

Oh, and caffeine can also spike bg for some people, so if you're drinking a strong tea, it may affect you. Some members of the forum recommend decaffeinated tea in such case.

Hi I drink tea, milk no sugar only in the morning when I get up usually have a couple of cups, not a problem then drink coffee no sugar and black always ground coffee. better then instant. do not have spikes.my failing is having a biscuit with the coffee during the day. then my bg goes up. had a couple of days of bg sugar being high. but know that was due to me eating all the wrong things. it was just a craving of wanting something nice. so down to me. next day......... am high. so no breakfast. just tea, couple of cups. in a couple of hours it was reducing.

You get these days does anyone else. It was on Sunday that all this happened. !!!!!!

I drink decaf tea with just a splash of milk, no effect on blood sugars. If I was drinking it like my Mum does though, with tons of milk, I'd want to count it as at least 5g of carbs.
