Hi,

A good friend of mind suffering with diabetes and she was using insulin. So How does the insulin work?

Any advice is highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Charles

You don't say what type of diabetes your friend has. I've posted a link to a Type 1 diabetes video that explains a little about how insulin works. Some Type 2 diabetics also use insulin, but often their diabetes can be controlled by diet and/or pills. Type 1 diabetics must use insulin, there is no pill that will help to control their diabetes and they cannot control it by diet alone.

Hi
I have been a diabetic for 36yrs. I gather your friend is a type 1 from you mentioning INSULIN
If she is on Nova rapid that is classes as a fast acting insulin which needs taking before a meal. If she is on lantus or lantus solar star or levamir they are a slow acting insulin and usually you would take this before bed.
I am on nova rapid three times a day and Lantus solar star at night.
It would help if we knew what insulin she was on so we can give some proper info.
Hope this helps Tracey69
