I only take Metformin 500 mg after breakfast, and one after dinner. I have a bowl of cheerios as I was advised to eat a bulky cereal for breakfast by the hospital consultant, which works, but even taking Metformin this puts my bg up to 11 mmol/l after an hour so not taking a tablet is not the answer. This morning I had breakfast early because of going to the market. I only had a short walk round. I went home and knowing that my bg goes lower when I eat breakfast early I tested before I took my dog out for a walk. It was 4.4. The practice nurse does not believe I go too low and says I don't need test strips because Metformin does not lower blood glucose enough. Usually I have breakfast later, take the dog for a walk, and do bits and peices and then have lunch at 1pm and I am OK with that. I know when I had my fasting blood test last time I didn't have breakfast of course so didn't take a tablet until I came home. The surgery was very busy and so the appointment was not until 11 am. I am fortunate to only live 5 mins walk from my surgery. Anyway the fasting blood test was 4.4. I am a thin type because I lost about 3 stone in weight before being dx so think this may be why my bg is a bit on the volatile side.
