I'm 14 months in and still honeymooning .... my total daily dose is now 10 units of Lantus and approx. 6-8 units of NovoRapid on a "normal" diet with carbs. Without carbs, I can often do without any fast acting. For example, if I have eggs, avocado and salmon for breakfast, I do not need NovoRapid and can maintain my levels between 5 and 7. Same for protein shakes and any other low/zero carb foods.
I do get odd days where my insulin requirements will temporarily increase (especially in hot weather; strangely, this seems to drop my insulin sensitivity rather than increase it as is more common) and when I eat ultra high-carb I definitely need to start plugging lots of NovoRapid.
I feel fortunate that I'm able to control it so well at the moment but at the back of mind I'm always thinking "when will the day come" when everything changes? With tight control is it possible to maintain honeymoon indefinitely or at least extend it significantly?
