How long could I have been diabetic?

I was diagnosed T2 about 3 months ago due to recurring thrush infections but is there any way of knowing how long I have been diabetic? I haven't had any other symptoms before or after the diagnosis but was wondering how much long term damage could already have been done.
 
How long is the proverbial piece of string............

It's not what damage has/may have been done.......it's what you can do to prevent any complications now.
