I've been really trying to take control of my Bgs and weight seriously for 3 mths now. I've been low carbing, tho not counting carbs so not sure how low and some days do shakes and veggies.

How long did it take for you to get your Bgs down to the sort of level you're at now? Are you happy with them?

I only see 5's maybe once or twice a day and weirdly not usually before food! ie two eves this week 6.3 & 6.4 before and 5.7 & 5.9 after!!

I really would like to get my before foods into the 'normal' range but that's only happened twice in the last two days.
I also seem to suffer the dawn effect. Last night I was 5.6 and this morning 6.7. I did eat a small piece of cheese (matchbox size) as I thought it might stop the DE but obviously didn't/was the wrong thing to do.

Would really appreciate your comments. Thanks

EDIT: Did pre lunch test --5.7 !!! Hope it's the start of something good.

Unfortunately, I'm still stuggling to get control. However, you're readings sound very encouraging.

Good luck

In my case it took at least 12 months before they were stable in the range I like them; the Dawn Phenomenon carried on for a while, despite me low-carbing at around 30g per day. I'm pretty sure my problem was insulin resistance; as my weight dropped, so the insulin became more effective and my BGs became stable.

Yours don't seem to be over-high; you're within the NICE guidelines range for Type 2 (4 - 7 before meals; less than 8.5, 2 hours after). The non-diabetic range is 3.5 to 5.5 fasting/before; less than 8mm 2 hours after. Give it time!

Mine has taken about 4 months to get in the 5's and stay there. Still occasionally goes into very low 6's but mainly 5's

I keep in the 5s and rarely see even a 6. I do this by eating almost NO carbs.I can't remember how long it took me to get here, but I've been in the 5s for years.
It's not NECESSARY to eat ANY carbs at all, so they are easily avoided once you get used to it. Unfortunately, carbs are addictive and the initial giving up can be HARD.
I'm not fanatical. Today one of my gym gang brought in a chocolate cake for coffee time and I had a tiny bit, just to join in. about 8 carns all together, I estimate. I had a wholemilk latte too, which isn't much carb either. My meal was left-over Quiche..ish from yesterday. near zero carb.
In addition, as of this morning, I'm lighter than I was in my 30s [65 now!] and my BMI has dropped to 28.[weighed by gym instructor!] Still not slim, but better. That's near 3 stone off. All by eating nutrient rich foods and avoiding empty calories.
Keeping to nutrient rich natural foods is my key.

10 mths on I can't get my bloods under control, but I don't think they are that bad really - in the 7's 8's. Never had a 5, and only once had a 6.5. So still struggling and I'm now on Metformin, doesn't seem to do anything tho.
